Neighborhood alliance rummage sale

The Audubon-Bon Harbor Neighborhood Alliance will host a summer yard sale on Friday and Saturday, June 29 and 30 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Neighbors are invited to host yard sales during this time.

The Audubon-Bon Harbor Neighborhood Alliance includes the neighborhoods of Audubon, Bon Harbor Hills, Turtle Creek, Harbor Trace, Doe Ridge and the Benttree Area.

The Audubon-Bon Harbor Neighborhood Alliance meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of every other month starting in January at the Audubon Church of the Nazarene.

Owensboro's inaugural Bourbon and Jazz Festival huge success

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- Organizers in Owensboro are calling the city's inaugural Bourbon and Jazz Festival a huge success.

The festival held this weekend drew a large crowd from all over the United States.

The Owensboro Visitor's and Convention Bureau will now have a permanent bourbon history display at its downtown office.

Organizers say next year's fest will be held on a different date with more event and more music.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane on KY 298/Old Hartford Road in Daviess County starting today.

This lane restriction is to allow placement of a bridge deck overlay on the Horse Fork Creek Bridge at KY 298 mile point 8.333.  This is on KY 298/Old Hartford Road between US 60/Wendell Ford Expressway and KY 1432/Burlew Boulevard in Owensboro.

World Changers in Owensboro this week

More than 19,000 students made a decision to pay money out of their own pockets in order to help improve living conditions of people across the United States and Canada. 283 students from across the nation will be in Owensboro this week working on a variety of assignments that range from painting buildings to putting new roofs on homes.

On average, participating students pay $250 to take part in the week. This summer, 90 World Changers projects will take place in more than 85 cities from Alaska to Florida, New York to California, and many places in between.

Owensboro set to kick off first ever Bourbon and Jazz Festival

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- Owensboro's a party city Friday night with the Friday After Five series in full swing right now and the first ever Bourbon and Jazz Festival is about to kick off, too.

This sold out event allows people to taste all kinds of different bourbons. Of course, the reason why Kentucky Bourbon stands out is because of the limestone water Kentucky produces.

95% of all bourbon is made in Kentucky.

Mystery Writers Festival makes return to Owensboro

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- The fourth International Mystery Writers Festival is in full swing in Owensboro.

There's a large crowd on hand at the festival's home, the Riverpark Center, and organizers say the festival is making a comeback.

For the last two years, the festival was canceled due to the lack of state funding. With money available this year, the Riverpark Board hopes to keep the momentum and turn Mystery Writers into an annual event and grow.

The festival has attracted many people from out of town.

City will try to scare birds away next week

A pyrotechnic event, which is part of the City of Owensboro’s blackbird control program, will take place next week on Tuesday, June 19 in the vicinity of the 2200 block of Yewells Landing North.

Justin Mahoney, wildlife specialist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s APHIS Wildlife Services, will set off pyrotechnics each evening from approximately 8:00 p.m.  Residents in the area should expect the loud noises and flashing lights from the controlled pyrotechnics during that time.
