Maria Kelly says five years ago she shared a dream with a friend about opening up her own business in downtown Owensboro. Through hard work, prayer, and determination she is making that dream a reality.

"When we thought about people living downtown and we thought what was missing...we knew a market need to be there," said Maria Kelly, Nona's Downtown Market Owner.

Kentucky Wesleyan College is so confident students will graduate in four years that the school is offering to pay for an extra year, if necessary, to make it happen.

The Owensboro College is marketing its four-year graduation guarantee to incoming freshmen. Follow the school's guidelines and you'll get that degree in four years.

Foster families from across the state including two from Daviess County will be honored at a Foster Care Appreciation Month reception in Frankfort on Thursday, May 16.

The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), the state agency that oversees the public foster care program, will present the parents with Excellence in Service Awards.

Daviess Co. Sheriff's Office takes steps to promote safe driving during summer

DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE)- With summer just around the corner, the Daviess County Sheriff's Office is taking steps to keep the community safe, especially when it comes to underage drinking and DUI's.

AAs schools start their summer breaks, the sheriff's office wants to remind students and community members that there can be some serious consequences to your actions.

"We're just out there to protect the public and to protect every one of the kids," said Deputy Tyler Free, Daviess County Sheriff's Office.

O'boro man facing over 1,000 counts of child porn appears in court

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- A man charged with over 1,000 counts of child porn is arraigned Wednesday morning in District Court.

The bond for 25-year-old James Christopher Payne, was set at $50,000 full cash.

His next court date will be the preliminary hearing and it was set for Wednesday, May 22 at 1 p.m.

Payne remains in the Daviess County Detention Center.

He was arrested on charges related to child exploitation Tuesday after the Kentucky State Police served a search warrant at his Owensboro home.

DAVIESS COUNTY, KY (WFIE)- Daviess County Public Schools Superintendent Owens Saylor is holding his latest community meeting for parents and others.

Today's opportunity to "Sit Down with Saylor is happening this morning at Jay Dee's Restaurant on Breckenridge Street.

The community is invited to come share questions, concerns, and more about the Daviess County Public Schools.

These sessions take place once a month in different areas throughout the county to give people the chance to meet with Saylor.
