Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Nick Brake has spent the last seven years improving and growing Owensboro. Brake says one of his main accomplishments has been diversifying the economy once centered around manufacturing and agriculture. "When I started here we had 700-800 people working for US Bank. I think by the time I leave here we're going to be hitting close to a thousand," said Brake.

David Johnson, Owensboro Public Schools’ Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel, Maintenance and Transportation, has been selected as the 2013 Kentucky Director of Pupil Personnel of the Year.  He will be recognized during the Kentucky Directors of Pupil Personnel Fall Institute that will be held Sept. 12-14 in Lexington.

Johnson has worked with OPS students in overseeing pupil personnel for 12 years.  In his position, he works with schools on attendance and student academic and discipline issues. He works with families, court designated workers, judges, child protective services, and other community resources to provide services to students when needed.  His goal is always to provide the best possible education for the child and to remove barriers to their learning.

A contractor for Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans asphalt paving work along KY 81 in southern Daviess County starting today.

This asphalt paving along KY 81/Owensboro-Calhoun Road runs from the Panther Creek Bridge at mile point 5.291 to Old Calhoun Road at mile point 10.638, a distance of 5.35 miles.

Motorists should be prepared to encounter one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers during daylight hours.  Appropriate caution is required.
