Three businesses joining forces for Fair Rate Kentucky

WESTERN KY (WFIE)- While there is relief that Century Aluminum will stay open, not everyone is cheering.

Three Western Kentucky businesses are joining forces to prevent the effects of that deal from impacting the "little guy".

Domtar, Aleris, and Kimberly Clark came together to form Fair Rate Kentucky in response to Big Rivers and Kenergy's rate proposal before the Kentucky Public Service Commission.

Fair Rate Kentucky says the rates proposed are unfair and will impact businesses and residential energy customers in western Kentucky.

Buckle Up: Click it or Ticket campaign underway

We've all done it before.  Pulling your seat belt under your armpit, leaving it behind your back, or not wearing it at all.  Now Kentucky State troopers are out in full force, looking for drivers carelessly using this lifesaving device.

Beginning May 20 and running through June 2, Kentucky State Police are focusing on the "Click It or Ticket" campaign.  With Memorial Day right around the corner, law enforcement expect a significant increase of vehicle on roadways.

The Kentucky office of Highway Safety says Kentucky has an 83% seat belt usage rate.  However, the national rate is 86% usage.

The Daviess County Public Schools district has earned Energy Star designation for 15 of its 22 buildings for the 2012-13 school year, with nine of these buildings earning this designation for the first time.

On a 100-point scale, the district’s overall compiled score is now 82. The honor is based on energy use compared to buildings of similar size across the country.

In the area of energy efficiency, Audubon, Burns, Highland, Meadow Lands, West Louisville, Whitesville elementary schools; College View and Daviess County middle schools; and the DCPS Central Office will join previous honorees Country Heights, Deer Park, East View, Sorgho, Southern Oaks and Tamarack elementary schools in the elite group of buildings that are in the top 25 percent of all schools/education facilities in the United States.
