Owensboro lauded for job growth

The city of Owensboro receives another economic honor in less than a week. Southern Business and Development ranked Owensboro as the sixth small metro city in the United States for job growth in 2013.

The organization says Owensboro has seen double-digit wage growth and rising wages each of the last 24 months.

The Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation says the city and county governments working together helped make economic development possible.

Owensboro cemetery cleanup leaves families upset

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- With Memorial Day approaching, a family is upset with what happened at the grave site of a loved one.

When Christy Miller and her family arrived at her father's grave on Wednesday, they say they were surprised by what they found.

An empty spot is all that's left of Billy Miller's memorial at Rosehill-Elmwood Cemetery. The rest of it lies with the belongings of other families, and it's a sight that Christy says breaks her heart.

"It almost looks like a tornado went through it," says Christy.

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- Everyday heroes will take center stage in Owensboro today. 

The Red Cross Heroes Luncheon starts at 11 a.m. and will be held at First Baptist Church located on J.R. Miller Boulevard.

This year's guest speaker also made an appearance in Evansville last night.

New York Times best-selling author Michael Hingson will share his story of triumph, trust, and teamwork.

Hingson's been blind since birth, but survived the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center with the help of his guide dog, Roselle.

New CEO named for Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- 14 News has learned who will be the next Interim President and CEO of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation.

Current Vice President Madison Silvert will take over when Dr. Nick Brake leaves for his new job as superintendent of Owensboro Public Schools on July 1.

2013 Free fishing weekend in Kentucky

 

June 1 and 2 will be Free Fishing Weekend in Kentucky.

State residents and nonresidents can fish any allowable inland water in the Bluegrass State that weekend without a fishing license.

Adults can fish free all weekend, and kids under 16 do not need a license to fish in Kentucky. 

Season dates, limits and all other fishing regulations must be followed during Free Fishing Weekend.   

O'boro EDC looking for new President/CEO after Nick Brake made OPS superintendent

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- The Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors approved a formal process to begin the search for a new President/CEO to replace Nick Brake, who will become the Superintendent of the Owensboro Public Schools on July 1.

In the interim period Madison Silvert, the current Executive Vice President of the EDC, will step in as acting CEO upon Brake's departure July 1 until a new President is named. Silvert is eligible to apply for the permanent CEO position.

Officers will honor those who have fallen tonight in O'boro

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- The Tri-State's continuing to remember fallen law enforcement officers with a special service in Owensboro.

The 28th annual Police Memorial Service will take place at Immaculate Church on Christie Place at 7 p.m.

This honors fallen law enforcement officers throughout Kentucky and nationwide as well.

It's funded and organized by the Fraternal Order of Police, Owensboro Lodge 16.
