OPD searching for assault suspect

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- Owensboro Police are on the look out for a suspect in an assault.

It happened at the PNC Bank parking lot on Frederica Street.

We're told cash and checks were taken from the victim and the suspect then fled on foot.

A police canine was brought in, but we understand the dog didn't find anything.

We are told the victim was a 23-year-old woman.

OPS Assistant Superintendent David Johnson earns state honor

 

David Johnson, Owensboro Public Schools’ Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel, Maintenance and Transportation, has been selected as the 2013 Kentucky Director of Pupil Personnel of the Year.  He will be recognized during the Kentucky Directors of Pupil Personnel Fall Institute that will be held Sept. 12-14 in Lexington.

Johnson has worked with OPS students in overseeing pupil personnel for 12 years.  In his position, he works with schools on attendance and student academic and discipline issues. He works with families, court designated workers, judges, child protective services, and other community resources to provide services to students when needed.  His goal is always to provide the best possible education for the child and to remove barriers to their learning.

DCPS superintendent invites public to 'Sit Down with Saylor'

 

Daviess County Public Schools Superintendent Owens Saylor is continuing a series of informal community meetings designed to give parents and other interested individuals an opportunity to meet with him to share suggestions, questions, ideas and concerns.

“Sit Down with Saylor” meetings are planned once a month in various areas of the Daviess County community. The next meeting is set from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, at Jay Dee’s Restaurant at 1420 Breckenridge St.

The forums continue with sessions scheduled from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, at John Kuegel’s dairy barn at 5230 Old Lyddane Bridge Road; and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 15, at the Daviess County Public Library.

TRAFFIC ALERT:  Paving on KY 81 in Daviess County

 

A contractor for Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans asphalt paving work along KY 81 in southern Daviess County starting today.

This asphalt paving along KY 81/Owensboro-Calhoun Road runs from the Panther Creek Bridge at mile point 5.291 to Old Calhoun Road at mile point 10.638, a distance of 5.35 miles.

Motorists should be prepared to encounter one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers during daylight hours.  Appropriate caution is required.

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- A new show called "Echoes of Elmwood" makes its debut in Owensboro this weekend, but you don't have much time left to get your tickets.

The shows will take place at Rosehill-Elmwood Cemetery, just off of Old Hartford Road.

"Echoes of Elmwood" is a spinoff of "Voices of Elmwood," which takes place in the fall.

This show features 10 stories from the first year of its parent show.

Actors wear period costumes and use first-person narratives to celebrate the region's heritage.

Owensboro School Board names new Superintendent

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- The Owensboro School Board has named Nick Brake as the new Superintendent.

The announcement was made
Monday evening at the conclusion of a special called meeting of the Owensboro
Board of Education.

Brake is returning to the field of education after
serving as President and CEO of the Greater Owensboro Economic Development
Corporation for the past seven years and will assume his new duties July 1.

OHS seniors learn the importance of giving back to the community

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- As they head into their last week of class, Owensboro High School's graduating seniors participated in their annual service project that emphasizes the importance of giving back.

As they prepare to move onto the next chapters of their lives, about a hundred students took on various responsibilities here at the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden.

Seniors were divided into groups so that every student could be involved with the project.

They worked on things like weeding, mulching, and painting fences.
