O'boro Facebook group helps keep money local

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- A Facebook page created by an Owensboro man is changing the way people shop.

The group, 'Owensboro Barter and Trade' was started almost two years ago and now has a little over 28,000 members.

Almost any kind of item is available from things you'd find around the house and even cars.

Founder Waylon Hurt explains how the idea was born after he heard a pretty interesting story and wanted to try it himself.

U.S. Bank getting closer to expanding in Owensboro

The Owensboro Board of commissioners passed an ordinance Tuesday that would modify the city budget. The change will provide funding for a new building to be built for U.S. Bank to leave as part of the bank's expansion.

The city will have a meeting to discuss the potential constractors to build the building and the approval of the ordinance also allows the city to put together a lease agreement with U.S. Bank.

Misty Meadows Winery in Owensboro recently medaled in five of six categories at the West Kentucky Wine Growers Association's President Ceremony in Paducah.

"We won three golds, a silver, a bronze, and this is the first competition we ever been in and we were told not to expect much," said Don Keller, owner of Misty Meadows Winery.

Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC is opening an office in Owensboro, the eighth for the firm and the sixth location in Kentucky.

Owensboro Chamber plans public celebration for 100th anniversary

Business leaders – past, present and future – will come together on Saturday, January 19 to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce. The Centennial Celebration, presented by Owensboro Health System, replaces the Chamber’s traditional annual dinner. All Chamber members, business leaders and community members are encouraged to attend.

The Celebration will feature a reception at 6 pm at the RiverPark Center. A short program, in Cannon Hall at 7 pm, will recognize all those who have served as a Chair of the Board of Directors, as well as a video capturing the history of the organization and community. Awards will be presented to the Chamber Member of the Century, Director of the Year, Joe Lowe Honorary Communicator of the Year, Ambassador of the Year, and the Chamber Young Professional of the Year. A Dance of the Decades will begin at 8:30 pm in the Jody Berry Theater with music by the Second Street Big Band.

Owensboro ready-mix business sold to Indiana company

Irving Materials, Inc. (IMI) has acquired the ready-mix concrete assets of Transit-Mix Concrete Co. in Owensboro, from Kim and Ann Agner.

Transit-Mix began operations in 1938 in Western Kentucky and has remained a family-owned business since inception.

IMI’s history dates back to 1946 when C.C. Skunk Irving began selling ready mix concrete and stone in Greenfield, Indiana. IMI Concrete has grown to supply concrete to six states through four regional operational centers. IMI Aggregates also mines stone, sand and gravel throughout Indiana.

Public invited to Convention Center 'topping out'

City, County and Industrial Development (IDA) officials along with General Contractor Denark Construction, Trahan Architects and operator, Global Spectrum, are planning for the ceremonial “topping out” of the new Owensboro Convention Center over a two-day schedule – January 10 and 11, 2013.

In building construction, topping out is a builder’s ceremony held when the last beam is placed at the top of a building. Topping out ceremonies mark progress and commemorate a milestone in the construction of a building. All tradespeople will join other representatives in the celebration.
