Fundraising softball and cornhole tournaments are set for next month to help an Owensboro couple who face mounting insurance expenses in the care for their premature twin boys.

The Kiper twins were born on May 24, at just 23 weeks and five days.  The boys remain in the hospital.

The co-ed softball and cornhole tournaments along with a silent auction to raise money for the twins and their family is set for September 22.

Shortly after birth, the boys, Samuel (1 lb, 5 oz) and Reid (1 lb, 9 oz) were given only a 50/50 chance to survive.

Holly and Jacob Kiper are first-time parents.  Holly Kiper lost her teaching job during her pregnancy and with that, health insurance for her and the twins.  Unfortunately, the Kipers learned that the twins do no quality for Medicaid and their current insurance expires today.

Family friend Jill Conrad, who is organizing the softball tournament, says the only option for insurance is COBRA, which will cost the family close to $1,000 per month and the medical bills from the NICU continue to accumulate.

The tournament will be held in Livermore, Ky at the city ball field, as well as at Buck Creek Baptist Church's ball field.  They’re hoping for 16 teams to be able to participate.  The entry fee is $150 per team.

Organizers are looking for donations for the silent auction as well as supplies such as: hamburgers, pork burgers, bottled drinks, buns, condiments, paper products/silverware, chicken, boston butts-basically any type of food and drink supplies.

There is a Facebook event page set up and there is a Paypal link there if you’d like to donate.

The Kipers are both staying in a parent room on the third floor of the hospital.  Any money made from these events goes directly to the Kiper family for medical expenses that their current insurance doesn't cover, as well as anything that accumulates after today.
