Mayor Ron Payne and the Owensboro Board of Commissioners invite the public to attend a wreath-laying ceremony on Monday, May 27 at 9:00 a.m. at the Charles E. Shelton Freedom Memorial in Smothers Park in honor of Memorial Day.

Seven Hills neighborhood hosting annual Yard Sale Fiesta next month

 

The Seven Hills Neighborhood Alliance will host its sixth annual Yard Sale Fiesta on Friday and Saturday, June 7 and June 8.

Neighbors are invited to host their own yard sales and encouraged to consider donating $5.00 to $10.00 of their proceeds to the Seven Hills Neighborhood Alliance to help offset the costs of advertising for the yard sale and to support various community improvement projects.  Donations can be sent to the City of Owensboro, P.O. Box 10003, Owensboro, Kentucky 42302.

Shifley-York Neighborhood Pride Day set for Saturday

 

The annual Shifley-York Neighborhood Pride Day is scheduled for this Saturday, May 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at York Park.  The event will feature free inflatables, food and representatives from the Owensboro Police Department and Owensboro Fire Department.  Neighbors are invited to come to the park and learn more about the Shifley-York Neighborhood Alliance.

The spring Highway 54 Yard Sale starts Thursday and runs through Saturday.  The huge event stretches from Leitchfield to Owensboro.  

Watch 14 News Sunrise on Thursday from 4:30 to 7 a.m. Western Kentucky reporter Alyssa Hansen will appear during the broadcast, chatting with Charlie Mattingly about the sale and more.

Owensboro Farmers Market kicks off Saturday

 

The Owensboro Regional Farmers’ Market will open Saturday, April 20, kicking off what is expected to be the market’s best year yet.

The Market features locally grown vegetables, flowers, meats and baked goods. This weekend, vegetable plants, flowers, early produce and more great items will be available. The Market is open 6:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays in the parking lot of Owensboro Christian Church, 2818 New Hartford Road. In June, the market will be open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

On Friday, April 19, InfoServ, a business accounting software consulting firm and GreenWorks, and EPA approved electronics recycling company,  will sponsor an electronics recycling event at the Loch Raven office building located at 3520 New Hartford Road in the parking lot of the Loch Raven Building from 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Any and all electronics will be accepted for recycling: computers: desktop and laptop, monitors: LCD and CRT , TV’s both LCD and console, cell phones, telephone equipment, VCR’s and DVD’s, printers, scanners copiers, fax machines, shredders, microwaves, small electric appliances, small electric tools, security equipment, digital cameras and camcorders, game consoles, electronic devices with printed circuit boards, lead acid batteries, all rechargeable batteries, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS’s), florescent ballasts, and all plastics.

The Kentucky Travel Industry Association named three Owensboro events to their 2013 Summer Top 10 Festivals & Events. ROMP: Bluegrass Roots & Branches Festival, Multi-Cultural Festival, and Street Legends were all awarded the distinction.
