International Bluegrass Museum to host Third Tuesday Writers Coffeehouse in 2013

Third Tuesday Writers Coffeehouse moves to the International Bluegrass Museum in downtown Owensboro, at 117 Daviess Street on January 15.

David Bartholomy, co-founder of the coffeehouse and director of the Brescia University creative writing program, said the new location offers writers and performers an inviting setting to present their original work and gives area residents the chance to hear some of the freshest writing in Kentucky and Southern Indiana. “Best of all, our college and high school students can attend and perform in the Bluegrass Museum.”

The January coffeehouse features guest curator Katerina Stoykova-Klemer, founder of Accents Publishing and author of three poetry books, most recently The Porcupine of Mind (Broadstone Books, 2012). Her first book, the bilingual The Air around the Butterfly (Fakel Express, 2009), won the 2010 Pencho’s Oak award. Born in Bulgaria, Stoykova-Klemer now lives in Lexington where she hosts “Accents,” a radio show for literature, art and culture.

Appearing with Stoykova-Klemer will be authors Elizabeth Beck, Morgan Adams, and Jeremy Dae Paden.

Beck runs the Teen Howl Poetry Series and performed for the Holler Poetry Series, the Gypsy Poetry Slam and the Wild Women of Poetry, in Lexington. Her chapbook Interiors will be published by Finishing Line Press.

Adams earned an M.F.A. in poetry from Indiana University. Her first chapbook, In Nonestica (Accents Publishing, 2013) draws upon myth, folklore, and family history.

Dae Paden, associate professor of Spanish and Latin American literature at Transylvania University, is a member of the Affrilachian Poets and the author of Broken Tulips (Accents Publishing, 2013).  His poems have appeared in Atlanta Review, Louisville Review, and pluck!.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with music by Jim Houston and Fred Wetzel, Open Mic sign up at 6:30 p.m., featured authors at 7 p.m. There is no admission charge. More information is available at facebook.com/thirdtuesday.
