Dry weather for DCHS Lady Panthers Softball Tourney

Apollo, Hancock County, and Heritage Hills are just some of the teams competing in the Daviess County Lady Panthers 'Team Lauren' Softball Tournament. The tournament is being played to raise cancer awareness and celebrate the life of Lauren June Girth, a DCHS softball player, who lost her battle with cancer in March, 2010.

Temperatures will be in the 70s this evening for the Hancock County/Heritage Hills game.

Green River Senior Games now 'Masters Challenge'; events start this month

The 2012 Masters Athletic Challenge will be held May 17 - June 9, and will feature bowling, cycling, golf, swimming, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Formerly known as the Green River Regional Senior Games, this annual event promotes physical fitness and healthy competition among area residents age 50+.

The games kick off Thursday, May 17, with bowling at Owensboro’s Diamond Lanes South. Swimming at OMHS Health Park in Owensboro (Tuesday, May 22nd) and tennis at Moreland Park in Owensboro (Wednesday, May 23rd) will take place the following week.

There's an event tonight to raise money for cancer treatment. 

Sandy Ball is throwing a Zombie Prom to raise money for her sister Lorann Jones.  Jones is battling a cancer that attacks your kidneys and needs help with medical bills. 

People come to the dance party dressed as Zombies in prom attire.

49th Tamarack Carnival in Owensboro

49th Tamarack Carnival in Owensboro

Tamarack Elementary is the place to be for rides, games, and a chili supper starting Friday at 4:00 p.m. and running through Saturday, May 5.

Rides on Saturday will open at 11:00 a.m.

There is a slight chance for severe thunderstorms on Friday evening with temperatures falling into the 70s.

Saturday...there is a chance for scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon.

 

5k walk/run to benefit DCHS student fighting cancer

5k walk/run to benefit DCHS student fighting cancer

A 5K run/walk is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Daviess County High School football stadium, with registration starting at 7 a.m.

The race is hosted by the DCHS Student Council and all proceeds will benefit the family of Jacob Helwig, a DCHS student who is battling cancer.

Registration fee is $15 in advance or $20 after May 11. Registration also accepted the morning of the race.

EVES to dedicate courtyard to memory of longtime educator Margaret Cavitt

 East View Elementary School will dedicate its courtyard to the memory of Margaret Cavitt, a longtime educator and beloved member of the Daviess County community, during a special ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8. The school is located at 6104 Kentucky 405.

The courtyard at EVES is located in middle of the school and provides a special area with picnic tables and landscaping for students, staff and families to enjoy nature. Landscaping includes seasonal flowers, a fountain, flags and bird feeders.
