Northwest Neighborhood Alliance Fun Day

The Northwest Neighborhood Alliance will host a neighborhood fun day on Saturday, June 16 at Kendall Perkins Park.  The fun day will last from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  All citizens are invited.  There will be free food (cooking provided by Sara Lee), representatives from the Owensboro Police and Fire Departments and music.   Come and enjoy family fun and learn more about what the neighborhood alliances do.

Neighborhood picnics planned in Seven Hills, Midtown East

The Midtown East and Seven Hills Neighborhood Alliances will host a neighborhood picnic Saturday, May 26 at Legion Park.  The picnic will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  All citizens are invited.  There will be free food (cooking provided by Atmos Energy), Owensboro Police and Fire Department vehicles, an inflatable, giveaways, and music.   Come and enjoy family fun and learn more about what the neighborhood alliances do.

The Daviess County High School Greenhouse will open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays starting Monday, April 9. All proceeds will fund student scholarships and the DCHS FFA greenhouse classes.

Items for sale include geraniums, petunias, impatiens, marigold, peppers, tomatoes, Boston ferns, hanging baskets and many other plants.

Two cleanup days set for Owensboro neighborhoods

The Apollo Area Alliance will host Pride Day in their area.  The annual neighborhood clean up will be held on Saturday, April 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  All residents are encouraged to join the group in picking up litter along sidewalks and streets in the neighborhood.  Volunteers are asked to meet at 8:00 a.m. at Apollo High School.

The Wesleyan-Shawnee Neighborhood Alliance will host a neighborhood cleanup, Saturday, April 21.  The cleanup will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.  All residents are encouraged to join the group in picking up litter along sidewalks and streets in the neighborhood prior to the cleanup, preferably on Friday afternoon.

Commonwealth Cleanup could earn cash for non-profits

Commonwealth Cleanup could earn cash for non-profits

Volunteers from across Kentucky are set to fill trash bags and pick up old tires March 17-24 during the 14th Commonwealth Cleanup Week.

The annual weeklong event is implemented by the Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) and kicks off the Great American Cleanup, spanning from March through May. Its purpose is to provide Kentucky communities with an opportunity to “spring clean,” recycle and promote personal responsibility across the Commonwealth.

Like breakfast?  Farm-city gathering set for this weekend

The “Best Breakfast in Daviess County” is set for this Saturday, March 10 at 7:30 a.m. at Apollo High School with the Annual Farm/City Breakfast.  The menu features bacon, sausage, ham, eggs and much more. This is the 33rd annual event.  The breakfast is sponsored by area farmers and local businesses and is intended to bring together rural and urban interests for a common event.

Dr. Scott Smith, Dean of the UK College of Agriculture, is the guest speaker for the breakfast, which is hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and the Daviess County Farm Bureau.
