Parts of O'boro will be booming | News
OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)-
A heads up for Owensboro residents: if you hear some loud bangs in your neighborhood over the next couple weeks, it's nothing to worry about. It's just a noise campaign to scare off some unwanted visitors.
The loud bangs you might hear are caused by the City of Owensboro's Bird Control Program.
The city uses the Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services to make sure black birds don't become a problem to residents. Blackbirds are really loud and travel in large groups, meaning you could have a large amount of bird droppings on places you don't want them.
The program will last from eight to ten over the next few weeks. It'll start in the Yewells Landing north area and follow the birds. The idea is to get the birds out of the city.
"They have these gas cannons, pyrotechnics, strobe lights. They'll they use some chemical fogging and they even use computer generated bird distress calls to play out, so it's a series of things they do to be the most effective," said operations manager Tony Cecil.
The city spends $20,0000 on the service.
