Two hurt in crash involving OPD vehicle

Kentucky State Police say the teenage driver of a pickup truck had been drinking when he drove into the path of an OPD vehicle Sunday night.

Troopers say it happened around 10:13 p.m. when a 2001 Dodge pickup driven by 19-year-old Justin Daffron of Owensboro tried to make a left turn from KY 54 into a gas station in Philpot.  When doing so, troopers say he drove into the path of the 2008 Ford Crown Victoria cruiser driven by officer Jeffery R. Jackson, 26.

Daffron suffered a broken leg in the crash and the officer had neck and back pain.

KSP says alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor in the accident.
