From the City of Owensboro, here’s the schedule for government offices over the Thanksgiving holiday:
CITY HALL - City government offices, including City Hall, will be closed Thursday, November 22, and Friday, November 23, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
TRANSIT - City transit buses will not run on Thanksgiving, November 22, but will run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 23.
SANITATION - Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the city will modify the sanitation collection schedule for residential and commercial customers. Normal trash collection will continue from Monday, November 19, through Wednesday, November 21. There will be no trash collection on Thanksgiving Day, November 22. These Thursday routes will be collected on Friday, November 23. Friday routes will be collected on Saturday, November 24. Saturday commercial routes will be collected as usual.
Residents are reminded that the city’s cost-saving automated system and low sanitation rates do not allow for extra trash to be piled on, in or around the mobile cart; lids must be closed for collection. Please be sure that carts open towards the street and that there is at least four foot clearance around the cart for our mechanical arm to collect your cart.
Since the holiday can produce extra trash, customers are urged to free up space in their mobile cart by using the Drop-Off Recycling Center at 1501 West 7th Street. The center accepts newspaper, cardboard (please flatten), aluminum and steel cans, plastic soft drink, milk and water containers, and magazines. Customers may also purchase special blue bags at the front desk of City Hall for $2.50 each (five for $10). When placed near the mobile cart, drivers will stop and collect these blue bags only. For long-term trash needs, additional mobile carts may be rented for just $.97 per week.
