Cap Gardner Award goes to OPD sergeant

The  City of Owensboro’s  annual Cap Gardner award has been presented to Sergeant Jeff Roby of the Owensboro Police Department.

Casper “Cap” Gardner was the Mayor of Owensboro from 1954 to 1958. The annual award named in his honor began in 2007 to recognize outstanding service by a city employee. Ms. Gayle Gardner, widow of the former Mayor, presented the award.

Roby, a 14 year veteran with the Owensboro Police Department, is the supervisor for the Street Crimes Unit. His nomination was a result of his commitment to narcotics enforcement and his collaborative efforts with community leaders to significantly reduce the impact of “K-2” among the youth of our community. “K-2” is a synthetic drug designed to mimic the effects of marijuana.
