OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- Owensboro Public Schools superintendent Dr. Larry Vick is retiring.
He told staff about his decision Tuesday morning.
Dr. Vick has held the position since 2001.
He cites wanting to spend more time with his grandkids and pursuing some new hobbies as reasons for retiring.
Dr. Vick says there's no specific reason for making the announcement today, he explains that the timing just happened to be right.
"Well, I've been a superintendent since I was 26. 39 years, and so I suspect that I'll have a little adjusting to do to not being a superintendent after serving for 39 years, but again, I've got a lot of things I'm looking forward to doing," Vick said.
Dr. Vick's last day on the job will be June 30th.
The school board will be in charge of the search for his replacement. We'll keep you updated on how that's moving along.
