Owensboro Convention Center enters a new phase
News

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- You're invited back to the Owensboro Convention Center for the second day of the Topping Out Ceremony.

Today officially marks the end of the steel phase of construction.

At 11:45 Friday morning, the final beam will be raised to its spot at the top of the Convention Center.

City and county officials will speak at the event and recognize some of the people who have played a major role in making the Convention Center a reality.

They'll also get their chance to sign the beam before it becomes a permanent part of Owensboro history.

Just like yesterday's signing, the public is more than welcome to attend the official topping out today.

If you come down to the site, you won't be allowed into the construction area, but a special viewing area will be set up near where yesterday's event took place, just off of Walnut and West First Streets.

Convention Center staff members tell 14 News that it was important for them to include the public in all parts of the Topping Out Ceremony.

The building will now move into the mechanical phase of construction, which typically focuses on things like plumbing and electrical work.
