Special tax service being offered to families in Western Kentucky
News

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- A special service is being offered to lower income families as we move into the heart of tax season.

Owensboro Community and Technical College's downtown campus on Frederica Street is one of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, or VITA, locations throughout Western Kentucky.

Here's how it works.

VITA volunteers receive training from the IRS to help file income tax returns for low income families.

If you'd like to participate, you need to bring a couple things with you to whichever VITA site you choose.

You'll need your individual taxpayer identification number, information for all deductions and credits, and a copy of last year's income tax return.

There are six VITA sites in Daviess County and one in Hancock, Ohio, and McLean Counties.

Henderson and Meade Counties also offer the VITA program.

The locations prepare tax returns on different days, but you're welcome to visit a site other than the one in the county where you live.
