Blue Bridge to close for six months | News

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- A traffic closure in Owensboro could have some drivers feeling blue.

Owensboro Mayor Ron Payne has announced that the Blue Bridge will close for 6 months for painting.

Officials originally only planned for one lane to be closed.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials say closing one lane at a time would have been a two year project.  Closing all lanes will be a six month project.

Owensboro City officials say the bridge will close to all traffic after the BBQ Festival in May. 

CVB officials say they expect the closure will start the Monday after that BBQ event ends.

The Chief District Engineer will be speaking with the Chamber of Commerce at the Rooster Booster Thursday.

Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said, "The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is continuing to firm up plans for the project and will have more information on Thursday."

Authorities say work should finish up around October or November.
