OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- This week, Owensboro Public Schools officially begin the search for a new superintendent to replace Dr. Larry Vick, who plans to retire on June 30th.
Starting tomorrow, the nomination process starts for the screening committee.
This is the group that will recommend several superintendent candidates to the Board of Education.
Nominations for the committee are due by Thursday, which will include teachers, a principal, and several others from the district.
After the voting takes place, the screening committee will be chosen by next Thursday, February 28th.
Superintendent applications are due by March 21st, and a new one should be chosen by May 7th.
It's important to remember that the Board of Education doesn't have to pick a superintendent from the group suggested by the screening committee.
They'll make the final decision.
Of course, these dates aren't set in stone and can change.
We'll keep you updated as the process moves along.
