OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- In Daviess County, parking fines are going up in Owensboro and if you don't pay on time, you'll pay more for that too.
Samantha Ellison has owend Bee Bop's Burger, Shakes and Fries in Downtown Owensboro for three years.
One of her favorite parts about her restaurant is it's location.
"It reminds me of when I was a kid I used to go to the little store with my mom in downtown Danville, Virginia," says Ellison.
But she says people parking their cars for long periods of time in parking spots that are meant for customers can hurt business.
"People park in front of the store and they will sit there all day long," says Ellison. "I had one lady park there from Friday until Monday and she was parked there all weekend and didn't move."
The Owensboro City Commission approved an ordinance that would increase parking fines and also increase the fine for parking tickets that are paid late.
A basic parking fine would increase from $2 to $3 and if that ticket is paid late, the fine will be $10.
Ellison is happy that the ordinance was passed.
"I think that with the parking fines going up, I think we'll eventually get more people down here, but we do need more parking spots because it is a problem," says Ellison.
The parking fine increases will begin May 1 of this year.
