OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- It's the last day for contractors to enter their bids to paint the Blue Bridge in Owensboro.
As we learned earlier this month, the bridge will be completely closed for six months starting on May 12th.
A few weeks ago, transportation officials said that about a dozen contractors had expressed some interest in painting the bridge.
After this morning's bidding deadline, transportation officials will take about a week or so to go through all of them.
The winner needs to meet all technical requirements of the project before a contract's awarded.
Starting next month, we can expect to see occasional night closures as the contractor starts the cleaning and painting work on the approaches.
Just as a reminder, the bridge will close right after the International Barbecue Festival and will reopen on November 15th.
Some work will also take place in 2014.
Once a contractor is chosen, we'll bring you that information on air and on 14news.com, so be sure to stay with us.
