Downtown Date Night 2013 ready to kick off

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- Downtown Date Night is ready to kick off its 2013 season in Owensboro and some things are new this year.

The free event's back at Riverfront Crossing, since Smothers Park wasn't fully open yet last year.

The addition of Artists' Alley is also in the works, which will be like an open air market.

Organizer Steve Champion says the event's a good way to experience all of the development and activity that's happening downtown firsthand.

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- Happening this weekend in Kentucky, the semi-annual Highway 54 Yard Sale.

It stretches from Leitchfield all the way to Owensboro.

The event's designed to encourage tourism in small towns and give them a bit of an economic boost.

If you're driving along Highway 54, you might notice several that spring up in different locations.

Even though everything starts Thursday, there are no set times for the yard sales.

Daviess Co. couple pack their bags, and house, for cross-county move

DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE)- Some Daviess County Kenergy customers are without power and what caused the outage can be accurately described as a moving experience.

"It's an old home. It's got all the cool characteristics of a farm house: windows and tall base boards. It's something that you can't just recreate," Wes Carter said.

DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE)- Thursday morning in Daviess County, an unusual moving day for an Owensboro couple is now over.

Wes and Sara Carter's house arrived Thursday morning at Sara's family farm.

The couple recently bought the home, but decided its location wasn't for them.

The moving process started around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Kenergy says they notified a thousand customers who live along the ten mile route that they might lose power as crews disconnected cables to make room for the home.

Semi-annual event kicks off today in Western Kentucky

Each year, this event takes place during Derby Weekend in the spring and in conjunction with Fordsville Days in the fall.

Organizers say this event was started as a way to help encourage tourism in small towns scattered along Highway 54.

Even though everything starts today, there are no set times for the yard sales.
