Daviess Co. veterans heading Washington D.C.

DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE)- The Daviess County Sheriff's Office is taking 10 veterans to Washington D.C. to visit the World War II Monument.

Thursday is the 69th anniversary of D-Day, and this trip is extra meaningful for one veteran.

The war is long over and some memories have faded, but these Western Kentucky veterans have not forgotten.  

Hal Miller is a World War II veteran who fought on D-Day. He and a small group of local veterans are going on a trip.

Judge tosses out lawsuit filed by Heather Teague's mother

OWENSBORO, KY (AP)- A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit brought by the mother of a young woman whose kidnapping more than 17 years ago remains unsolved.

U.S. District Judge Thomas B. Russell ruled that Sarah Teague of Madisonville brought her case to court too late to be prosecuted and that the allegations lack merit.

Teague sued members of the FBI, Kentucky State Police, the Henderson Police Department and others in February alleging a cover-up.

New senior center to be built in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)- The Elizabeth Munday Senior Center in Owensboro has outgrown its home.

For many years members of the Elizabeth Munday Senior Center has yearned for a bigger space. That dream is on its way to come true.

Senior center officials are looking to build a new one story building near the Moreland Park area. That's good news for retiree Judy Hayden who has been coming to the senior center off and on for the last couple of years for different activities.

Two area troopers earned honors at a statewide gathering.

Trooper James T. Gaither of Lewisport was presented with Post 16’s Trooper of the Year.  During the calendar year of 2012, Trooper Gaither issued 1,444 citations, arrested 74 impaired drivers, investigated 25 criminal cases and made 173 criminal arrests.  Trooper Gaither has been a trooper with the Kentucky State Police for 2 ½ years.

DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE)- Highway 554 in Daviess County, Kentucky reopened Monday night after authorities say a meth lab in a vehicle exploded, shutting down traffic in both directions.

You're invited to honor WWII veterans this week in Daviess County

DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE)- As we approach the 69th anniversary of D-Day, Daviess County veterans are being honored in a very special way.

Just before 1 p.m. tomorrow, the Daviess County Sheriff's Office, Owensboro Rotary Club, and veterans will meet at the Sports Center on Hickman Avenue in Owensboro.

The sheriff's office will take World War II veterans to Louisville for the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

The veterans will tour the World War II Memorial on Thursday, which is also D-Day.

O'boro police looking to solve senior center burglary

OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE)-

Who would steal from an Owensboro senior center? That's something Owensboro police want to know.  
They need your help solving a recent burglary.  

It all started a few weeks ago when Munday Activity Center Executive Director Tom Vittitow says a coworker discovered someone had broken into her office.
