Making sense of the 2012 election

Now that the dust has settled on the 2012 election, what does it all mean?  You can join University of Evansville Political Science Professor Robert Dion in a lecture/discussion on “Making Sense of the Election Results” Tuesday, November 13, Owensboro Community and Technical College, Advanced Technology Center, Room 107.

The event gets underway at 7:00 p.m. and is sponsored by the Owensboro Area World Affairs Council.

We're still a few weeks away from election day but here's a preliminary look at the November ballot for the local races in Daviess County as well as the statewide races that will be contested

Local businessman will challenge for 12th district seat

Local businessman will challenge for 12th district seat

Owensboro area businessman Bill Barron has announced he will challenge 12th District Representative Jim Glenn who has held office for three terms. 

Barron is running as an independent candidate. He told 14 News' Dave Kirk  the reason he wants to run is to help more businesses create jobs.

24-year-old Democrat Jeremy Warfield is running against Glenn in the May 22 primary.

Have breakfast with your state lawmakers Saturday

The public is invited to attend a Regional Legislative Breakfast hosted by the Green River Area Development District on Saturday, January 28. This free event will be held at the GRADD office at 300 GRADD Way in Owensboro.

Breakfast will be served at 9:00 a.m. and will be followed at 9:30 a.m. by a forum with the state legislators who represent the seven-county region.

Senators Joe Bowen, Carroll Gibson, Jerry Rhoads, and Dorsey Ridley, as well as Representatives John Arnold, Dwight Butler, Jim Glenn, Jim Gooch, Tommy Thompson, and David Watkins have been invited.

Local volunteer firemen would get tax credit

Local volunteer firemen would get tax credit

Daviess County volunteer firefighters-- and others throughout the Commowealth--would get a tax break if a new bill that's just been proposed can gain support. 

Rep. Michael Meredith, R-Brownsville (19th District) has filed a bill for the 2012 Regular Session that if passed would create a $1,000 refundable tax credit for any certified volunteer firefighter in Kentucky.

Absentee voting Saturday in Owensboro

The Daviess County Clerk's office will be open for Absentee voting from 8 a.m. until noon in Room 104 of the courthouse.  Any students home from college for the weekend, voters who will be out of town on election day or poll workers who are scheduled to work outside of their precinct are encouraged to vote.

The courthouse is located at 212 St. Ann St.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8 and polls will be open then from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
