DCPS elementary schools now accepting applications for fee-based 2012-13 pre-school

Burns, Sorgho, Tamarack and West Louisville elementary schools  have opened registration for fee-based pre-school next year.

These DCPS elementary schools use a curriculum of Sing, Spell, Read, Write program, LIPS phonemic awareness, Second Steps Anti-Violence prevention, an introduction to the Spanish language, and more.

EVES to dedicate courtyard to memory of longtime educator Margaret Cavitt

 East View Elementary School will dedicate its courtyard to the memory of Margaret Cavitt, a longtime educator and beloved member of the Daviess County community, during a special ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8. The school is located at 6104 Kentucky 405.

The courtyard at EVES is located in middle of the school and provides a special area with picnic tables and landscaping for students, staff and families to enjoy nature. Landscaping includes seasonal flowers, a fountain, flags and bird feeders.

Southern Oaks to honor long-time educator Pam Burns

Pam Burns will be guest of honor at a reception honoring the retiring principal of Southern Oaks Elementary School. The reception is open to friends, family, current and former co-workers from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 6, in the SOES media center. The school is located at 7525 U.S. 431.

Reception will honor long-time Daviess County educator

Anita Newman will be guest of honor at a reception honoring the retiring principal of Highland Elementary School. The reception is open to friends, family, current and former co-workers from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, in the HES gymnasium. The school is located at 2909 Kentucky 54.

The reception will include a performance by the Highland choir and percussion ensemble.

Anita Newman has served the Daviess County Public Schools district for 36 years and will retire at the conclusion of the 2011-12 school year.

New principal named at Southern Oaks Elementary

New principal named at Southern Oaks Elementary

Jennifer Humphrey has been named principal of Southern Oaks Elementary School following a unanimous vote of the SOES Site-Based Decision Making Council on April 18.

Humphrey, who has served as assistant principal at College View Middle School since 2010, will begin her responsibilities on July 1. She replaces Pam Burns, who is retiring at the conclusion of the 2011-12 school year.
